My name is Allison Chan and I graduated from Loyola Marymount University in Spring of 2018 with a B.B.A. in Applied Information Management Systems and a minor in Multimedia Arts. I hope to pursue higher education in the future and attend graduate school to get an MS in Media Arts and Technology.
I worked at Amber Systems Technologies, a POS company as their only Multimedia Designer for 3 years, where I discovered my passion for UI/UX Design. I started with designing flyers and e-newsletters to send out to clients. After getting experience in graphic design, I moved onto Website and UI/UX design for both the company’s POS systems and mobile apps. I started from designing graphics for email newsletters and banners to designing websites and applications for iPhone and Android. I redesigned the entire system’s interface, making it more user-friendly and efficient. I created graphics for the company’s Tableside, Waitlist and Analytics app for Android and iOS, and built an entirely new website for the company, making it easier to navigate. Throughout my 3 years as a Multimedia Designer, I met and corresponded with 50+ clients to determine their needs for an efficient POS interface.
Throughout my time as a student in Loyola Marymount University and through my work experiences, I have learned and achieved new skills like User Interface Designing, Web Development through HTML and CSS, App Development, Database Management Systems, and more. I have also learned many new tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere. I have learned to use WordPress and Wix to easily create aesthetically pleasing websites. I am continually learning and have a strong desire to achieve as many skills as I can.
One quote that I came across is: “A user interface is like a joke. If you have to explain it, it’s not good enough.” And that is the quote I go by with my designs.
